Byron Bay Dive Centre: Open Water Course

Julian Rocks is one of the few dive sites where you can swim with tropical species found on the Great Barrier Reef as well animals from Australia's deep Southern Ocean.

Included:
The Open Water course takes three days to complete plus the online theory section. The course includes equipment hire, tuition, swimming pool lessons and 4 scuba dives at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve and an experienced Dive Instructor to help you learn all the skills necessary to become a qualified Open Water Diver.

All confined water training is conducted at the dive shop, an instructor training facility, located in the heart of Byron Bay. Here we have a fully equipped classroom and a training pool heated to 25 degrees Celsius.

All theory must be completed online before the course starts.

Once certified you will be able to dive independent of an instructor, at any dive shop anywhere in the world. Our Open Water course starts every Tuesday and Friday (8am- 4pm).

A dive medical is not compulsory in New South Wales however there are some medical conditions that may prevent you participating in a scuba dive these include the following:

  • Lung damage or disorders including a history of asthma or recent congestion
  • Heart disorders
  • High blood pressure
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diabetes and epilepsy
  • Ear disorders and damage

Under 15 or over 45 years of age

What to Bring:
Swim suit & towel.

Extra costs: Approx $99.00 for dive medical.

Dive and snorkel Byron Bay's Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.

Here the reserve is home to three different species of sea turtle, an assortment of rays including mantas, hard and soft corals, friendly wobbegong sharks and over four hundred different species of fish. All of this is only a five-minute boat ride from Byron Bay.

Once you receive access you will be able to begin the theory component of your course. Please allow 4 - 5 hours to complete this training in one session, alternatively you may log out at any time and complete the theory in stages. Please be aware that failure to complete this theory before starting your course may result in your exclusion without refund from the course.

It is also your responsibility to load a passport style photo onto your diver profile as certifications cannot be issued without one.
